FCA Cancels Ponto Tech’s Payment Institution Registration

by FXInsider

The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has made a decision to revoke the registration of a financial technology company known for offering payment services as a Small Payment Institution, as outlined in the Payment Services Regulations of 2017. This action was taken after the regulator determined that the company is no longer compliant with the necessary requirements for maintaining its registration status.

The FCA’s main concern is that the company has failed to meet the criteria set forth by HMRC regarding anti-money laundering and the regulation of terrorist financing activities. Specifically, the firm has not provided any payment services since the year 2020, which indicates a significant lapse in its operational activities.

In light of these findings, the regulator believes that canceling the registration is a necessary action to further its goals of protecting consumers and ensuring the integrity of the financial system. This cancellation of the firm’s registration will take effect on March 19, 2025, as determined by the FCA.

By revoking the registration, the FCA aims to uphold the standards expected of payment institutions and enforce compliance with regulations designed to safeguard against financial risks. The organization’s overarching objectives focus on maintaining a fair, transparent, and secure financial environment for consumers.

This move underscores the importance of rigorous oversight and adherence to regulatory frameworks within the payment services sector. Financial institutions and technology firms are expected to operate in accordance with established guidelines to maintain their registrations and continue serving their clients in a compliant manner.

Overall, the FCA’s decision serves as a reminder of the critical role regulators play in ensuring that businesses within the financial services industry uphold their responsibilities and adhere to necessary regulatory standards.
