The London Metal Exchange (LME) has recently announced the appointment of Stephen Higgins as a Non-Executive Director. Higgins brings over 40 years of extensive experience within the metals industry, including a significant tenure of 34 years at Freeport-McMoRan, where he holds the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer. In addition to his role at Freeport-McMoRan, he is also the Chairman of The Copper Club and serves as a Board Director of the International Copper Association, having previously chaired the LME Copper Committee for five years.
The LME Chairman expressed enthusiasm about Higgins joining the board, highlighting his reputation as a respected leader in the industry. The chairman emphasized that Higgins’ extensive knowledge in physical markets and his commitment to sustainability align well with the Exchange’s ongoing development initiatives. Moreover, in order to effectively address the diverse needs of its global user base, the LME recognizes the importance of having strategic insights from key geographic areas, a gap that Higgins is expected to help fill with his appointment.
Higgins’ academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Cornell University, alongside a Master of Business Administration from Michigan State University. His significant expertise and leadership within the sector are anticipated to be invaluable as the LME continues to evolve and adapt in the ever-changing landscape of the metals industry.
