New York Suspends Licenses of Pay-O-Matic Services

by FXInsider

The New York Department of Financial Services (DFS) has announced a consumer alert related to a prominent check cashing and money transfer service. The organization has confirmed that the company in question has halted operations, and as a result, the DFS has suspended its licenses.

Customers who have been affected are encouraged to reach out to the customer service team of the service provider. Should they encounter difficulties in addressing their concerns with the company, they can also file a complaint with the DFS’s Consumer Assistance Unit.

The official communication from the service provider indicates that it has been in operation for over 50 years, but effective September 12, 2025, all of its check cashing store locations will be permanently closed. The message further states that its electronic bill payment network and services will no longer be available at either the physical branches or through participating agents in New York and New Jersey.

Customers with inquiries are directed to contact a specific customer service number for assistance. However, users of its prepaid card system can still utilize their prepaid cards anywhere that Debit MasterCard is accepted and access their funds at ATM locations as usual. For any questions related to their prepaid cards, a separate customer service number has been provided.

The closure marks the end of an era for a business that has served its communities for decades, and customers are urged to seek assistance for any unresolved matters during this transition.
