The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) has issued a caution regarding deceptive phone calls that use a fraudulent telephone number mimicking that of the regulatory body. This practice, known as “spoofing,” involves callers altering their identity information displayed on the recipient’s caller ID to mislead them about the source of the call.
Currently, a series of calls have been reported that show the number 031 327 91 00, which is associated with the FINMA switchboard. Callers are impersonating FINMA employees during these interactions. It is important to note that FINMA typically does not initiate contact with private individuals via phone or email.
Individuals who receive such calls should exercise caution and verify the caller’s identity. It is advisable not to engage with these suspicious calls or to share any personal information.
In situations where there is uncertainty, individuals are encouraged to reach out to FINMA directly through their official email address, questions@finma.ch, providing details about the call they received claiming to be from the authority.
