XTX Markets Co-CEO Resigns Amid Strategic Changes

by FXInsider

A notable shift has occurred within XTX Markets, a prominent financial institution known for its market making and proprietary trading activities, following the resignation of Hans Buehler from his position as co-CEO. Alongside stepping down from this leadership role, he has also exited the board of directors of various entities within the organization.

Buehler joined XTX in 2022 as Deputy CEO and ascended to co-CEO alongside the firm’s founder in 2023. His tenure has coincided with significant growth for the company, positioning it among the most lucrative financial firms in the UK. Under his and the founder’s guidance, XTX Markets has not only achieved remarkable profitability but has also established itself as a substantial taxpayer in the region, with the founder being recognized as one of the wealthiest individuals in the UK.

Before his time at XTX, Buehler dedicated 14 years to JP Morgan, where he held various key positions, including Global Head of Equities Analytics, Automation, and Optimization. He previously worked at Deutsche Bank as Global Head of Equity Derivatives Quantitative Research. His academic background is distinguished, holding a PhD in Financial Mathematics from the Technische Universität Berlin, which complements his extensive industry experience.

Buehler is reportedly planning a transition toward academia, having previously held a visiting professorship at the Technical University of Munich in Germany. This decision marks a significant career shift following his impactful role within the financial sector and may reflect his aspirations to focus on education and research in the future.
